Google and new energy

Google, the Internet company with a seemingly limitless source of revenue, plans to get into the business of finding limitless sources of energy. The company, based in Mountain View, Calif., announced Tuesday that it intended to develop and help stimulate the creation of renewable energy technologies that are cheaper than coal-generated power. Google said it would spend hundreds of millions of dollars, part of that to hire engineers and energy experts to investigate alternative energies like solar, geothermal and wind power. The effort is aimed at reducing Google’s own mounting energy costs to run its vast data centers, while also fighting climate change and helping to reduce the world’s dependence on fossil fuels.

“We see technologies we think can mature into very capable industries that can generate electricity cheaper than coal,” said Larry Page, a Google founder and president of products, “and we don’t see people talking about that as much as we would like.”

May be we will be able to be nude all time with these energies!

Russia Russia Russia Gays united

Moscow gay pride organizer Nikolai Alekseev will soon face charges of slander and insult for allegedly outing former parliament member Alexander Chuev on live national television, reports the UK Gay News.

Speaking on the NTV channel’s talk show K Baryeru! on June 21, Alekseev reportedly called the state Duma deputy a "gay, coward, and hypocrite." It was the first outing of a gay politician in Russia.

Six days later, Chuev sent a complaint to the General Prosecution department questioning whether Alekseev breached articles 129 (slander), 130 (insult), and 282 (incitement of hatred) of the Russian Criminal Code. The case was transferred to Moscow prosecution, which began a criminal investigation on July 31.

The criminal case against the Moscow pride organizer is expected to arrive in court shortly. The court will have to give the final verdict whether Alekseev committed any crime under Russian law.

According to UK Gay News, Alekseev recently said, "The criminal case against me was conducted with multiple breaches of legislation and the investigators failed to find any prove of my guilt. Until the court hearing I have no right to disclose the details of the case and the proof that is [to be] used against me. But during the court process, many details will become known.”

Alekseev added that he believes the court has no other choice but to find him innocent, "though in the current condition of pressure from authorities I can not exclude that the decision of the court will not be fair which is not anymore a surprise to us. In any case we are ready to lead this case up to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg."

Regardless of the outcome, the pride organizer feels the end justified the means: "We reached the main goal of defeating Mr. Chuev in Duma elections in December."

Super boat for hot guys with speed engines

Although New Zealander Pete Bethune's past attempts to circumnavigate the globe in a boat have met with failures and disasters, he still hasn't lost hope. He plans to embark on yet another journey to go around the world with his crew. But what makes his efforts different from the rest is that he plans on using human fat to power his boat. He and two other Earthrace crew members underwent liposuction and gathered around 2.5 gallons of fat from their bodies, which produced almost two gallons of fuel (enough to go 9 miles under optimum conditions). The group plans to go around the globe in 65 days at an average of 23 to 29 mph. The current record for circumnavigating the globe is 74 days and 20 hours and 58 minutes, set in 1998 by the British vessel Cable and Wireless Adventurer. Their 78-foot-long boat - Earthrace is fueled entirely with biodiesel and Bethune says it emits 78 percent less pollution than conventional diesel vessels. The vessel is powered by two 540 horsepower Cummins Mercruiser engines and cost almost $3 million to build. Craig Loomes Design designed the trimaran around a needle-like wave piercing hull. This allows Earthrace to slice through waves and can be submerged under 21 feet of water rather than sailing over them.

What a ballbra is for men

Ballbra is like wonderbra but for men package
:)

Kreso Gotovac, 31, is the director/owner of Ballbra -- a futuristic and high tech underwear that promise a unique wearing experience. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, Kreso divides his time between there and Split, Croatia.

We sat down recently with Kreso to talk about Ballbra underwear.

UD: What brand, style and color underwear do you have on right now?
KG: White/Boxer Ballbra Model- size L

UD: How did the idea for Ballbra start? How'd you come up with the name?
KG: This is a question everyone wants to know. The idea came to me in August 2005, during our yearly catamaran boat cruise around the beautiful Adriatic islands in Croatia. Stopping on the island of Korcula, we had gone swimming on one of the local beaches. While lying on the beach I saw a gentleman's balls fall from his underwear as he was changing in front of me. I thought straight away, this man needs a Ballbra and the design hit me immediately. Then I thought about how underwear these days has no excitement. I felt there was room for a new product such as a Ballbra. After much design and testing, Ballbra also came to be known as the world’s first ultimate sex underwear for men. Soon after arriving at my office from the trip, I met with my team and created the Ballbra lineup which is globally recognized today.

Hitchcocked the new gay thriller on Restoring Love in video

Hitchcocked is a gay thriller from America that will take you on a ride for all of its 8 minutes. One gentleman seemingly ventures to another’s apartment to after connecting via the internet. All is not as it seems when they get into the shower together, for a steamy and scary confrontation. I LOVED the twist ending, and the two guys are hot. Ambient music and some minor gags relieve the tension while keeping this a great film. Eight minutes, the smart, sexy “Hitchcocked” gives new meaning to the term “shower scene.” You might get a little turned on, and creeped out, watching a nude young couple engage in some hot role playing that no doubt would have delighted Alfred Hitchcock — and Norman Bates.

Gay Flowers

Wonderful poetry that my friend Alexis sent to me.

Flowers...

Do they Bloom?
But do they bloom???
I wonder if they come in different colors?
I wonder about the fragrance?
I wonder if it would help to put those preservative packets in the water?
I wonder if they bloom?
I wonder whether they would look better on the kitchen table or in the entry?
I wonder if they're cheaper by the dozen?
I wonder if they come in long-stemmed?

Dedicated to you, my dear reader...

What is straight again?

Wikipedia describes straight acting as, "The label often used by those who do not self-identify with the traditional, standardized perception of gay men. Because the term invokes negative stereotypes of gay people, its application is often controversial and may cause offense."

But in the world where metro sexuality reigns, what is considered stereotypical gay? Is the stereotype a guy who wears short shorts, and speaks with a lisp like Mike Tyson? Or is it well-dressed and overly polished man who wears designer jeans like David Beckham?

The lines of sexuality based on someone’s appearance and actions seems to be blurring, yet the term 'straight acting' still seems to be overly relevant in gay culture.

If you watch the show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, most people would considerer Carson Kressley to be the flamboyant embodiment of the stereotypical gay man. However, there are many more men who consider themselves gay who act, dress, and look like Kyan Douglas, so it would, therefore, make sense that he in fact represents the stereotypical gay man.

If straight acting refers to not being stereotypically gay, then it should be deducted that his behavior and personality is actually what men are not seeking when they say they only want straight acting men. Or is the prejudice just against flamboyant behavior?

Certainly sites like Randy Blue, which hosts a bevy of beautiful men, most of whom claim to be straight, would not want to capture a flamboyant personality in porn, but is there any gay eroticism that does?

Colt Studio Group has mostly gay men in their videos, and it would be a challenge for any observer to find one of them acting in a flamboyant manner while participating in a scene. So why is the fantasy so much higher if the guys say they are straight?

This year, online viewers voted stunningly sexy Johnny Castle as Men Magazine's Man of the year. Castle has appeared in gay erotica, although only in solo scenes, and professes in his interview that he is straight. Last years winner, Zeb Atlas, also considers himself straight. Although both men are extremely attractive, it does seem odd that a gay publication with gay readership would vote for straight guy as their man of a year two years in a row.

As the "gay for pay" phenomenon continues to grow, it is important to remember that porn is created to fulfill a fantasy. Gay or straight, the men are living out sexual desires that the watcher can appreciate from a far. Those fantasies, however, should not create a community that is longing to be something that they are not.

To appreciate a great body and a great face is one thing. But the next time you want a straight acting guy, be sure to figure out exactly what it is that you are asking for.

David Beckham is glad to be a gay icon

David Beckham has admitted he is flattered to be considered a gay icon.

The former England skipper credited his wife for his pink appeal, revealing that Victoria often chooses his outfits for him.

"I'm very honoured to have the tag of gay icon," Becks told Radio 2's Lines of Enquiry, speculating: "Maybe it's things like [the fact] I like to look after myself, I like to look smart and presentable most of the time."

He added: "Without a doubt Victoria has a huge part in the way I look these days. I think most couples agree you have to listen to your partner and you have confidence in your partner to tell you whether you look good or whether you don't and to help you out with your fashion and dress sense."

Why I feel honoured to be a gay icon says David Beckham

Why I feel honoured to be a gay icon, by David Beckham, as he admits he lets Posh choose his clothes

If the thongs and sarongs weren't enough of a giveaway, then David Beckham's latest confession certainly is.

The footballer admitted yesterday that his wife Victoria likes to dress him - while he loves being a gay icon.

The 32-year-old former England captain said: "Without a doubt Victoria has a huge part in the way I look these days.
"I think most couples agree you have to listen to your partner and you have confidence in your partner to tell you whether you look good or whether you don't and to help you out with your fashion and dress sense.

"In America I am just in shorts, tee shirts and flip flops - although if Victoria is listening, she'll probably turn round and say the truth, that I actually get my outfit ready the night before.

"I'm very organised and controlled and need to go to bed at night knowing what I'm going to wear the next morning.

"I'm very honoured to have the tag of gay icon.

A new gay world: Fruit Fly

Interesting?

What's a girl without her gay best friend? With all of this girl-on-gay-guy love going on, a gay man's female best friend deserves a nickname less galling than "hag." Enter the fruit fly.

A New Generation Expresses its Skepticism and Frustration with Christianity

from Barna Org
As the nation’s culture changes in diverse ways, one of the most significant shifts is the declining reputation of Christianity, especially among young Americans. A new study by The Barna Group conducted among 16- to 29-year-olds shows that a new generation is more skeptical of and resistant to Christianity than were people of the same age just a decade ago.

The study of Christianity’s slipping image is explored in a new book, entitled unChristian, by David Kinnaman, the president of The Barna Group. The study is a result of collaboration between Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons of the Fermi Project.

Rising Reactions

The study shows that 16- to 29-year-olds exhibit a greater degree of criticism toward Christianity than did previous generations when they were at the same stage of life. In fact, in just a decade, many of the Barna measures of the Christian image have shifted substantially downward, fueled in part by a growing sense of disengagement and disillusionment among young people. For instance, a decade ago the vast majority of Americans outside the Christian faith, including young people, felt favorably toward Christianity’s role in society. Currently, however, just 16% of non-Christians in their late teens and twenties said they have a "good impression" of Christianity.

One of the groups hit hardest by the criticism is evangelicals. Such believers have always been viewed with skepticism in the broader culture. However, those negative views are crystallizing and intensifying among young non-Christians. The new study shows that only 3% of 16 - to 29-year-old non-Christians express favorable views of evangelicals. This means that today’s young non-Christians are eight times less likely to experience positive associations toward evangelicals than were non-Christians of the Boomer generation (25%).

The research shows that many Christians are innately aware of this shift in people’s perceptions of Christianity: 91% of the nation’s evangelicals believe that "Americans are becoming more hostile and negative toward Christianity." Among senior pastors, half contend that "ministry is more difficult than ever before because people are increasingly hostile and negative toward Christianity."

The Set of Perceptions

While Christianity has typically generated an uneven reputation, the research shows that many of the most common critiques are becoming more concentrated. The study explored twenty specific images related to Christianity, including ten favorable and ten unfavorable perceptions. Among young non-Christians, nine out of the top 12 perceptions were negative. Common negative perceptions include that present-day Christianity is judgmental (87%), hypocritical (85%), old-fashioned (78%), and too involved in politics (75%) - representing large proportions of young outsiders who attach these negative labels to Christians. The most common favorable perceptions were that Christianity teaches the same basic ideas as other religions (82%), has good values and principles (76%), is friendly (71%), and is a faith they respect (55%).

Even among young Christians, many of the negative images generated significant traction. Half of young churchgoers said they perceive Christianity to be judgmental, hypocritical, and too political. One-third said it was old-fashioned and out of touch with reality.

Interestingly, the study discovered a new image that has steadily grown in prominence over the last decade. Today, the most common perception is that present-day Christianity is "anti-homosexual." Overall, 91% of young non-Christians and 80% of young churchgoers say this phrase describes Christianity. As the research probed this perception, non-Christians and Christians explained that beyond their recognition that Christians oppose homosexuality, they believe that Christians show excessive contempt and unloving attitudes towards gays and lesbians. One of the most frequent criticisms of young Christians was that they believe the church has made homosexuality a "bigger sin" than anything else. Moreover, they claim that the church has not helped them apply the biblical teaching on homosexuality to their friendships with gays and lesbians.

The ‘UnChristian’ Label

When young people were asked to identify their impressions of Christianity, one of the common themes was "Christianity is changed from what it used to be" and "Christianity in today’s society no longer looks like Jesus." These comments were the most frequent unprompted images that young people called to mind, mentioned by one-quarter of both young non-Christians (23%) and born again Christians (22%).

Kinnaman explained, "That’s where the term 'unChristian' came from. Young people are very candid. In our interviews, we kept encountering young people - both those inside the church and outside of it - who said that something was broken in the present-day expression of Christianity. Their perceptions about Christianity were not always accurate, but what surprised me was not only the severity of their frustration with Christians, but also how frequently young born again Christians expressed some of the very same comments as young non-Christians."

Changing Allegiances

One reason that Christianity’s image is changing is due to the shifting faith allegiances of Americans. Simply put, each new generation has a larger share of people who are not Christians (that is, atheists, agnostics, people associated with another faith, or those who have essentially no faith orientation). The new book refers to this group as "outsiders" because they are describing what Christianity looks like from an outsider’s perspective. Among adults over the age of 40, only about one-quarter qualify as outsiders, while among the 16 to 29 segment, two-fifths are outsiders. This represents a significant migration away from the dominant role that Christianity has had in America.

Madonna plans for 2008

Queen Madonna will turn 50. That's right the mega star will celebrate it with two albums. The first will be her eleventh studio album and the second will be a compilation album. That will complete the Warner contract. The studio album is expected to have an overall hip-hop feel, with Madonna lining up Timbaland, Pharrell Williams, Justin Timberlake, Danja, Felix Da Housecat, Swizz Beatz, Sean Garrett, Akon, Mark Stent to help her achieve R&B credibility. A source told The Sun: “Confessions was a worldwide smash — but this will be different once again. The last album was a credible disco record and Madonna wants to give hip-hop the same treatment this time. It’s not all hip-hop though; there are a lot of producers from a lot of genres in there. It could be her most ambitious project yet.” a song from the album 'the beat goes on' was lick to the net and it mix version become a hit in Israeli clubs.

For thos who follows the stroy from the beginning, they remember my new sneakers

Yesterday I took Air FRance flight AF84 from Paris to San Francisco. And I had a special deep bosy inspection at airport security because of thses brand new sneakers having electronics inside. YOu can see the battery and the electronic ciscuits. And it is supposed to be very fashion. In fact for airport secutiy officers, it is very suspicious!

I thought I would not be able to go on board. Af the end, I was accompanied in a private car to the plane whereas all passengers have already been on board for a while.

Never travel with the latest sneakers with electronics inside!

Gay hot sessions in second life

The second Life of Second Life is the space of the possible ones. One can be no matter who, or anything, the only limits being our imagination or our means. One leaves us the advisability of being his own owner, through an ultra-liberal and ultra-aggressive capitalism. It is an open world where very buys itself and monnaye, exchanges themselves and is negotiated. More than one social experiment, Second Life is a chaotic supermarket where some would like a little palliative love between two shelves. Coitus on the inch with another misadventure adult and agreeing. For all these which want all to know without never to have dared to require it, Flu left to fornicate. For the good cause.

When one unloads in Second Life, which strikes us more, it is the vastness of the territory to be explored. Paradoxically, the population present and active on the waiter is quite less than lets it suggest the place available. Let us count 30.000 potential partners. It should be thought that space used is used for especially to align the fronts of stores without any salesman, vacuums of customers and abounding in strange goods. If you had never had the occasion to dredge during your hours of night inventory at Champion or in the handing-over with material of Micromania, here is finally the occasion to combine sordid and phantasms.

Beyond all these deserted gravers, the places intended for the satisfaction of virtual sexuality are often black of world. Or rather pink, or color flesh. With you to judge. To find this type of place, it is enough to know the only useful English word. SEX. One types it in the search engine of Second Life, in the category “places” without forgetting to notch the small “Mature” box, thus letting appear the results concerning the responsible and probably famished adults.

Once one noted the names of the éxotiques dairies or in phase with our phantasms, one must have to slip into his pocket some tickets. Our walk towards the coitus does nothing but start.

An obviousness which escapes to us, because we all are delivered of series with all the parts attached, it is that in Second Life, the misadventures are stripped of genitals. The zones concerned at the woman as at the man are virgin. Ni forms nor texture does not come to brighten the pubes. Therefore of many stores sell in disorder of the penises provided with purses, available at several stages of erection and sensitive to the external interactions. The equipment of the young ladies often constitutes suitable texture for the vagina, as well as interactive zones posed on the centres and the stomach.

Technically, in fact spheres react to the “touch” of the mouse when one clicks above, just like do it on sale the penises. One is filled with wonder in front of diversity at modelings, energy of the tube with two spheres, with the more complex achievements with precise textures and realistic forms. When his equipment was chosen, it is enough for us to equip it on the pelvis. It will place itself. For the young ladies, think of adjusting your chest.

As strange as that can appear, the significant zones of the woman are hidden and that of the men are visible as from the moment when the sex is positioned. It is with the image of reality, with the difference close which we are not obliged to seek in a back bag for finds a lost testicle.

Now that we the armament, we have need the ammunition. The misadventures of Second Life can be subjected to animations coming from outside, an object or another misadventure. When one assoit on a chair, the sitting position is one. Certain objects require the permission, others of us not. In general, the interactions of character with character are authorized. One can see people thus moving one on the back of the other, or being held by the hand. As one can notice it for certain seats and sofas, it is enough “to sit down” on the sphere of action which is posed above so that the misadventure gives an opinion.

This system is the same one for the sexual intercourse of Second Life. The positions and animations with two are composed of a sphere which you equip, and of another that you carry in levitation in the vicinity. It is necessary whereas the partner decides to sit down on your sphere and agrees “to undergo” animation. There is simpler and less indicator that a ball of color which floats in front of the pubis. One can also buy packs of animations, which, once equipped and solicited by the cat, directly will be addressed to the partner to propose to him to share the action.

Many conditions, and still, we speak there only about the technique.

N.Y. student punished for wearing pro-gay T-shirt gets apology

The Spencer-Van Etten Central School District agreed to make a public statement supporting students' right to wear T-shirts with controversial messages, satisfying demands made by civil liberties advocates after a student was punished for wearing a shirt supporting gay rights.

Heathyre Farnham, a 16-year-old student at Spencer-Van Etten High School, was sent home Sept. 21 because Principal Ann Sincock believed Farnham's T-shirt — which read "gay? fine by me" — would spark a disruption by prompting anti-gay responses.

District officials, including school district attorney Jim Young, later acknowledged that Sincock's action was a mistake and that Farnham's T-shirt was a form of protected expression. Barrie Gewanter, director of the Central New York chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union, pressed the school board at an Oct. 23 board meeting to issue an apology to Farnham and a public statement to students that district schools would respect students' free-expression rights.

The school board did not grant either request at the meeting. But after further negotiations with the NYCLU, the district agreed to both. According to a Dec. 6 NYCLU press release, a Nov. 2 message read over the high school's public address system said the school dress code "does not prohibit students from displaying controversial or political messages," and that among the "wide range" of acceptable messages are those "supportive of lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender people." The announcement did note that the dress code bans obscene or profane words and images, as well as messages promoting the use of drugs, alcohol or tobacco.

Sincock also apologized to Farnham privately, Farnham told the Student Press Law Center.

Superintendent Steven Schoonmaker declined to comment on the details of the agreement, saying only that the issue had been resolved.

"Everyone seems to be happy and we're going to go back to educating children," he said.

Farnham said she is satisfied with the resolution of the controversy.

"It wasn't storybook, but it turned out OK," she said, adding that "everything's pretty much back to normal."

Gewanter said the public statement directly to students was important to dispel the chilling effect of Farnham's initial punishment.

"You can't cure the chill of censorship with silence," Gewanter said. Farnham's punishment was troubling not only because it infringed on students' free-speech rights, but also because censoring a message supportive of gay and lesbian students called the school's support for those students into question, Gewanter said.

"We are very happy that the school district decided to cure the message of censorship with a message of tolerance," she said.

Gay doll in tribute to The President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The controversial handmade doll created by the Brazilian sculptor Fernando Carpaneda in New York, are leaving Arabs and homophobic religious leaders with the hair standing on end!

And the doll has something that has to be censored.

The uncensored doll on restoring sex blog
.

Charlie, the gay doll, was created by artist and his composition was inspired by both gay icons and notorious homophobes in contemporary history. The doll’s body was based on the Russian journalist and photographer Slava Mogutin, who is the most famous gay celebrity in Russia and was chosen by Carpaneda in “honor” of the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, which banned the demonstrations of gay pride in the country.

The gay doll face was inspired by the Brazilian priest Edino Fonseca, a notoriously homophobic Brazilian politician who proposed using taxpayer money to establish clinics to cure gay people of their homosexuality.

The doll is featured in four versions: a skinhead, in tribute to the largest homophobic group in the world, another version dressed with gothic priest robe, like used by the priest Marcelo Rossi, a Brazilian Catholic icon, an Arab version and one Jewish version in tribute to the president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The doll is also dedicated to the Pope, as he is one of the most homophobic religious leaders in history.

Charlie the Gay Doll comes with two penis options, flaccid uncircumcised model or erect. The penis model was based on the artist’s own penis. The name Charlie is a tribute to the president of The Leslie Lohman Gay Art Foundation, Charles Leslie.

Charlie is 12 inches tall with tattoos and is being sold at The Leslie Lohman Gay Art Foundation for $ 300 dollars.

Half of Canada's gays live in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal

On a recent business trip, a new world grabbed me by surprise. I didn't know what to expect of the city's gay scene but I knew I wanted to explore it.

Within the bustling metropolis I found a fetish night happening at one of the city's three gay clubs. Artsy lesbians and bourgeois gay men strolled the streets and were in full attendance at the dance theatres and music shows. The Andy Warhol exhibit was showing at the city's art gallery. Culture, art, culture. I left the city feeling happy and gay, refreshed after my two weeks in Winnipeg.

You read it right — The Peg. (okay, maybe bustling metropolis is a bit of an overstatement). Sometimes referred to as "Winterpeg" and home of the legendary most-freezing-street-corner of Portage and Main, Winnipeg has a gay community that is anything but cold.

Half of Canada's same-sex couples live in just three fabulous cities: Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, according to Statistics Canada, 2007. Now, using StatsCan's flawed data on a flawed metric can only generate results of a limited use, but it's the best data that's available at the moment. And — what's more frightening — considering that the gays-against-marriage backlash started in urban centres, it's at least possible that our best guesses actually underestimate the number of gays that live in the big three.

The Mado drag shows of Montreal are pure gay entertainment one could not find elsewhere. The unending queer parade of Toronto Pride can't be matched. And Vancouver's West End is about as great as a gay village can get — anywhere in the world.

But Canada is big. Very big. And believe it or not, Canadian queer life beyond the major cities is thriving.

Because of the vast size of our nation, Canada's homo density is far less concentrated than, say, the Greek island of Lesbos (er, for instance). Our land is vast, and so is the distribution of the gay population.

Hard to be gay in those days in Hollywood

RUPERT Everett is bitter about the way homosexuals are treated in Hollywood. Earlier this month, Jodie Foster appeared to join Everett as one of the industry's few "out" gay stars when she thanked her "beautiful" partner, Cydney Bernard, at an awards event in LA. But Everett says that doesn't prove acceptance of gay actors has increased. "It's the opposite. She is 45 and she just couldn't be bothered anymore," he told the Times of London. "After a certain age you can be gay in Hollywood. Before that it's not only not good, it's impossible." In his latest film, "St. Trini an's," Everett is in drag as Cam illa Fritton, headmistress of a zany girls' boarding school.

The new Batman and Robin: trailer pre-view

Finally, here it is, the long-awaited official first glimpse — in motion, anyway — of Heath Ledger as the Clown Prince of Crime, the Joker.

And, you know what? I feel a little let down. The problem is, there's no real wiggle room when it comes to interpreting this character. Everyone who's ever played him — from Cesar Romero back in the '60s, to Jack Nicholson (who probably delivered the definitive performance) to Mark Hamill on the Batman animated series — has had to blend mania and hysteria, and top it with a plummy renegade cackle.

Which is exactly what Ledger is doing. Sure, he looks different — that makeup does go a long way towards making him look genuinely scary, as opposed to harlequin silly — and the film seems to be treating him differently, with more heft, than in the past. But that's the job: play this dude like a force of pathological nature.

My favorite shot of the whole thing? It comes early on, with Batman standing atop a skyscraper at dusk, surveying his city. He just looks so...small. The comics offer that image all the time, and he always appears larger than life, as if his wingspan was wide enough to envelop all of Gotham. But here, you really get the Herculean nature of the task Bruce Wayne has set before him. He's just one man. And it's a big city.

And, all of that said, I still can't wait for July.

Gay candidate wins "Survivor" TV reality show

He was obnoxious and often times repugnant with his backstabbing and overly paranoid game play, but this weekend, at the age of 22, gay flight attendant Todd Herzog became the fifteenth winner to be declared the winner of Survivor.

Created for the United States audience in 2000, Survivor puts a group of willing Americans in a deserted location and pits them against each other to compete for a million dollars. The key is to outwit, outplay and outlast all of your competitors, and in the end, a juror of your ousted peers vote to award you the prize.

This season proved to be more entertaining than many recent runs of the show; a colorful cast of characters offering a feast for reality television lovers.

A gravedigger, a professional wrestler, a card shark and a lunch lady were all eliminated as Herzog, Amanda Kimmel, and Courtney Yates managed to make it to the final three, where Todd convinced the jury he was the most deserving player.

From the beginning, the slight-statured Herzog was an outspoken character who manipulated his alliances to kick off stronger players. In the end, he bested Yates by two votes and left Kimmel in third place.

He now joins the infamous Richard Hatch, who won the inaugural Survivor: Borneo season, as the only openly gay competitors to take home the top title, though several other gay folk have won cash.

Lunch lady Denise Martin lost her job after appearing on the show, and producer Mark Burnett awarded her with a consolation $50,000 prize for making it to the final round. Hottie James Clement earned the fan vote and took home $100,000 for his trouble.

New jurassik park for gays

When it comes to Dubai and attracting wealthy tourists, the word "restraint" is seldom used. Perhaps that is why it is not surprising that the locals are building a $1 billion theme park that will feature over 100 animatronic dinosaurs of 40 different species. Dubbed "Restless Planet," the park will attempt to provide an educational experience amid all of the Vegas-style spectacle. This will be done using history themed rides and robots/habitats that represent an accurate portrayal (based on current knowledge) of what life was like millions of years ago.

The robots will also be capable of interacting with guests by following them with their eyes or lunging at them as the walk by. Even though you would think that keeping the wraps on a 500,000 square foot park would be difficult, further details are scarce. However, the park is scheduled to open in late 2008 in City of Arabia, Dubai.

Swim in your car for christmas

Swiss design company Rinspeed is known for its eccentric concepts, including last year's translucent eXasis Concept and the "Splash" hydrofoil car that set a speed record crossing the English Channel. Rinspeed is once again turning to the water for its latest concept, although this time they will be heading below the surface instead of skimming above it. Set to debut at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the sQuba concept is the world's first diving car, according to the company, and can be submerged up to 10 meters below the surface. An electric motor provides power to the rear wheels as well as two propellers and dual jet drives, and a futuristic cockpit comes with its own supply of oxygen. Like many of Rinspeed's other unique creations, the sQuba will only remain a one-off and there are no plans for production. The press release from Rinspeed can be seen after the jump, and two not-so-real photos can be viewed in the gallery.

Daniel Radcliffe buys a Manhattan penthouse

He occupies a box room at his parents' London home and has hardly touched his estimated £25million fortune.

So it is hardly surprising that Daniel Radcliffe has decided the time is right to enter the property market.

The Harry Potter star has spent £2.2million on a newly-built bachelor pad in Manhattan.

But he has no immediate plans to live in it, and it is available for rent by well-heeled New Yorkers at £10,000 a month.

Radcliffe gained full control of his earnings after his 18th birthday in July.

Along with the other teenage Potter actors, he received personal consultations from Coutts, bankers to the Queen, on how best to invest his fortune.

The 1,843 sq ft fifth-floor apartment is a 13-storey, glass-walled condominium in trendy SoHo.

Designed by architect Jean Nouvel, it has been dubbed the "sexiest new development" in the area. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the Manhattan skyline.

The building - which contains 40 flats - also has a 50ft swimming pool, a steam room and concierge.

It would provide a convenient base for Radcliffe when he makes his Broadway debut next September in a repeat of his controversial West End performance as a disturbed young man in Equus.

However, Chris Pomeroy, from the U.S. property firm Halstead, said that it was available for rent "for at least a year", which would keep it occupied until after the scheduled opening of the production.

Beautiful gay black butts

 <

The black male body has been a thing of allure and mystery throughout history.

The love of big butts can be seen as positive because of the healthy body image it promotes - no more are the days of the anorexic-looking man. Today's gay men want a little meat on their men... well, at least a little junk in the trunk.

Black men have been objectified as sex objects ever since their voluptuous bodies were seen as a welcome change to the bony figures of European men to whom the male settlers were accustomed. When African men arrived in America via a "free cruise" through the middle passage with their large posteriors, it was assumed that they were sex-craving, savage beasts. The view of black men as sexual predators is still seen today in both the entertainment industry and society at large

But there is nothing wrong with having a big butt, big lips, and big everything else as long as you're happy with that.

(this is a parody of a black women apology! :) )

Bug Chasers exist

A bug chaser is a gay man who deliberately attempts to contract HIV by having unprotected sex with a man or group of men known to have the virus.

I have tried to illustrate gay men and bugs in a pleasant manner.
If you want to know the truth, if you dare, read the complete story, those two articles...
A terrific sociological fact...
When people are labeled 'abnormal' simply because of their differencesand discriminated against because of those differences, their entire being can become paralyzed. The voice of the mind is stifled, the voice of the heart is oppressed, and the voice of action becomes disabled. For many decades in America, homosexuals have suffered in this way. Homosexuality was not only discriminated against, it was made illegal and labeled a mental disorder.

With the multicultural revolution of the '60s and '70s, we witnessed the beginnings of the arduous task of affirming the rights of oppressed people in our society, including homosexuals. For gay people, a benchmark of success in this movement occurred in 1973, when the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" (DSM) removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. At last, as gay people, our differences were no longer pathologized and society began to not hold these differences against us, at least institutionally. This was one of the many markers in gay history that enabled us to rediscover our long impotent voices.

Even so, there are still those who attempt to pathologize our expressions of love, to minimize who we are as human beings, and who look upon our community only in the context of our 'behavior,' rather than embracing each individual as a member of the human family.

As a gay man living with HIV, I have found it difficult to hold the DSM in my hands, difficult to gaze upon its pages, and difficult to let go of the rage that I felt inside towards a book that wasoften referenced in the persecution of so many of my gay relations. But in my anger I came face to face with my own resistance-resistance to let go of the past, to look upon the pages of the DSM with a fresh mind, and to acknowledge the wisdom that this book holds. I recognized that my inability to rise above such a mindset mirrored that of the earlier authors of the DSM. This was a source of tremendous suffering for me.

I often refer to the DSM in this article. I do so not to hold individuals in a pathological 'freeze-frame,' but rather as a tool to recognize particular paths, to understand the complex story of people. I am trying to explore my own resistance to the lives that we bear witness to here. Ultimately, I believe that we are all bound by love and the human covenant to deeply understand such lives.

I must also begin with this disclaimer. The men I refer to as "Bug Chasers" are a very small fraction of the gay community. This article is not meant to sensationalize nor bring harm to my gay brothers. It is only my attempt to understand, embrace and ultimately love them-without want, resistance, or ignorance.

Asking For Help
I can remember the demonstrations in San Francisco, I can still feel the heavy sadness, still hear the chanting of the crowds, I can see the placards demanding assistance from the federal government, and I can still smell the burning of thousands of candles in memory of our dead. I can taste the salt of my tears. Our pain, our anger, our isolation, our grief, our hopelessness, and our helplessness brought us together. Help was all we were asking for.

Gay had become the acronym for "Got AIDS Yet?" Out on a date I confided "I am HIV positive." His reply was "Who isn't?" Was it 1983? '84? '85? Was it Castro Street, Market Street, or Civic Center? Was it 10,000, 20,000, or 30,000 marching? This was the dawning of the AIDS community and help was all we were asking for.

Year 2000. In Gay nightclubs across the U.S. men wear sleeveless shirts in hopes that someone will notice the tattoo "HIV-" blazoned across their deltoid. What is not so obvious is that the intention of such a tattoo is to attract someone who is HIV+. It is an invitation to infect through a practice known as "barebacking," having unprotected anal sex. In other words, the tattooed man is intentionally seeking an HIV+ partner to infect him with the virus. All that is left is a trip back to the tattoo artist to have that tattoo adjusted from negative to positive. Simple.

Is help all these men are asking for?

In private sex clubs across the U.S. men gather for a chance to participate in what is called Russian Roulette. Ten men are invited, nine are HIV-, one is HIV+. The men have agreed to not speak of AIDS, nor HIV. They participate in as many unsafe sexual encounters with each other as possible, thus increasing their chances to receive "the bug." These are the men known as 'Bug Chasers.'

Is help all they are asking for?
Suicide or Informed Consent?
For most of us, our initial reaction to such behavior is shock. We could assume that men who do this are trying to commit suicide, consciously or unconsciously. We might demonize such behavior by blaming these men for the further spread of AIDS. My own initial reaction was a mix of deep sadness and concern, harsh and bitter judgment, accompanied by a dark fascination and an echo of familiarity. I wanted to see into and label such behavior, perhaps even to pathologize. I wanted to understand what was the fire of my judgment and the coolness of something so familiar. As I began to research, I turned first to the wisdom of psychology to try to understand.

What could cause men to tempt fate so? There are many apparent reasons. Some men report that the element of danger in sexual encounters of this kind adds to the "rush" of arousal. There are men who, once infected, feel like they finally "belong," they are now part of the Gay community. Some find relief in knowing that now they don't have to worry about getting infected any more, the deed is done. Some believe the myth that HIV is a chronic manageable disease and that the new drugs promise them a long and healthy life. Some couples see infection as the deepest level of intimacy.

No doubt any of the above explanations can be put forth as probable cause for such seemingly reckless self-destructive behavior. Yet I find myself stepping back from easy explanations. Generalizations such as these don't speak to me as truth, they merely touch the surface. The truth is that each individual has a different story that leads him to participate in this way. Each story has many layers, and these layers fall somewhere on a continuum between what is deemed 'abnormal' and 'normal' behavior. Although it is convenient to maintain a narrow reactive focus, the fact is that if we truly want to shed light on this subject and to understand, we must use our insight and our knowledge. "Bug Chasers" are members of the human family and it's important to embrace them as such.
Conscious and Unconscious Intentions
In reflecting on the stories of people I know and have read and heard about, it seems to me that Bug Chasing can be both conscious and unconscious. Such intentions seem to manifest differently in two distinct generations of gay men. The older generation are those who have lived through nearly two decades of loss and grief due to the ravages of HIV. The younger generation of Gay men have not been as affected by the multiple losses which have occurred in our community.

In pointing out this difference, I do not mean to minimize the impact of emotions felt by the younger generation of Gay men about such losses. Rather, I choose these two generations as a marker of differentiation because there seems to be two very different themes that play out in participating in unsafe sexual behavior.
The clinical disorders discussed in this article should not be considered absolute—some characteristics overlap into both generations while some disorders are more clearly present in one than the other. And by the way, and perhaps this will be a surprise to some, research reveals that most of these men, regardless of generation, are well informed and educated.
The Unconscious Intention
I believe that the "Bug Chasers" of the older generation of Gay men may possibly be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The diagnostic criteria in the DSM for PTSD is that the individual "has experienced, witnessed, or was confronted with an event or events that involved actual or threatened death or serious injury... and that the person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror." The DSM also states, "Individuals with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder may describe painful guilt feelings about surviving when others did not survive or about the things they had to do to survive."

Psychologist Walt Odets, in reference to the complex varieties of survivor guilt seen in HIV men, says, "HIV- men tend to be profoundly clinically depressed, anxious, disoriented, hypochondriachal, uncertain about the future, sexually dysfunctional, deeply demoralized and physically numb." He goes on to say that many HIV men "abuse alcohol or drugs, and their physicians prescribe them millions of dollars worth of tranquilizers, sleeping pills, anti-depressants and sedatives every year." Finally, Odets finds that more and more uninfected men now "live in nearly every detail like a dying man - disoriented, piecemeal, and with no assumption of the future."
My own experience bears this out. In the larger Gay ghettos of San Francisco and elsewhere, I have met older Gay men who have lost all of their friends and avoid developing new relationships. Such men live in a world often characterized by increasing isolation, unresolved anger, substance abuse, and a lack of desire to participate in activities they once enjoyed. I recall some men who were HIV- in the late eighties attending support groups where they openly expressed their hopelessness and alienation as they witnessed their friends, their peers, and their generation die. I have witnessed many such individuals express disappointment and despair that they were still alive. I have heard men say it would have been easier to die with the complications of AIDS because living meant having to learn to cope with multiple loss. Add to all of this the terribly revealing fact that, as Michaelangelo Signorile recently wrote, "far too many gay men say they actually fear growing old in a gay world that puts the young and buffed on a pedestal while treating the over-35 crowd like lepers."

The Intimacy of Bug Chasing
For some men, the desire and quest for intimacy is also bundled into this equation of bug chasing. Some men may fetishize the HIV virus, and act in intimate ways to relate to it, while others may feel so 'below' another that they risk their own well being for a fleeting moment of intimacy. In an article in POZ Magazine, Michael Scarce challenges our ideas of what might be considered intimacy when he writes: "Charged Loads...offer a kind of permanent partnership, a connection out-side of time." He quotes an HIV+ man as saying, "It turns me on knowing how much he wants my come and how much he's willing to deal with to get it." Scarce goes on to state that "the sharing of semen and reclaiming its rich symbolic meanings," reflects the desire for intimacy.
Sadly, I am skeptical that sharing of this kind can ultimately bring about the level of ongoing intimacy that these men are searching for.

I do not, however, believe that Scarce is advocating bug chasing, per sé, but is wisely presenting us with an opportunity to examine intimacy beyond our narrow understanding of it. We might think that these men are out of their minds, but that judgement is the measure of our own resistance. We need to explore this resistance if we are to understand more completely these men who are undeniably our own. Confronting my own negative judgement, I ask myself, "How dare I project my ideas of intimacy onto another." After all, isn't that the same root of oppression towards homosexuality that has occurred throughout this past century?

The Positives of Being HIV Positive
Ian Young, in his article The AIDS Cult and Its Seroconverts, says that many HIV- men think "HIV positives live richer, more complex, more 'authentic' lives, get more attention, are better able to take risks including, significantly, the 'risk of intimacy' and with such risk-taking, life can be meaningful and full."

I must confess that my own seroconversion (i.e. becoming HIV+) brought about tremendous grief coupled with a wonderful euphoric sense of liberation, of letting go-a liberation that taught me to love again. I know of many men, including myself, who, when they seroconverted, felt as though they were now encouraged to take better care of themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Coupled with such feelings, many of these same men also felt as though they were finally supported by the community that they once felt so alienated from. Confirming this, Young writes "An HIV+ test result, or even an AIDS diagnosis, frequently results in a decrease in anxiety!"

Reacting with such positive emotions about such a devastating diagnosis seems quite strange at first, like a reversal in the logic stream. But this isn't about logic, it's about very complex psychological and emotional territory. It might be that such positive acceptance of finding oneself HIV positive arises developmentally from previous abnormal conditions. Such conditions might include chronic depression rooted in childhood unhappiness, socially induced guilt, and internalized homophobia. As these conditions develop, the opportunity to fully act out is then presented through barebacking and bug chasing. Seroconversion, in this case, may or may not be the goal.

But it might also be argued that there is a conditioning factor inherent in Gay culture that rewards men for becoming HIV positive, as though it were a rite of passage. If so, this would be a relatively new (within the last 20 years) cultural development, and something that we would do well to bring into the light of consciousness and intention. Is such a self-injurious rite of passage what we want for ourselves? Is it not possible to love and accept one another without having to seroconvert? Without having to die to feel loved?

A More Conscious Intention
It is difficult for me to imagine being young and coming into my sexuality after two decades of AIDS, be it gay, straight, or otherwise. My own sexual liberation twenty years ago held no such fears or threats. I did not have to confront the choice of whether or not to adhere to the "do's" and "don't's" of my sexual expression. Such expression was not desensitized by latex, interrupted with "informed" negotiation, nor stalled by the doubt or mistrust of my partner's sexual history. Such expression flowed with the rhythms of the heart and the body, not the ticking of an apprehensive mind.

But young people are coming into their sexuality, every day. HIV and AIDS are not new news. Their consciousness and choices are a world apart from what I and my generation experienced. And, given the world of choices and consequences they face, some choose barebacking and even bug chasing.

I think, for most people, it is very easy to demonize these behaviors. I did. My initial thought was that such men suffer from Antisocial Personality Disorder which, according to the DSM, is characterized by a "lack of empathy and tendency to be callous, cynical, and contemptuous of the feelings, rights, and suffering of others." The DSM goes on to say, "These individuals may also be irresponsible and exploitive in their sexual relationships," and "are more likely than people in the general population to die prematurely by violent means, e.g. suicide, accidents, and homicides." I assumed that these men had no sense of remorse for the harm they commit, not only to others, but to themselves. I imagined an impulsive behavior and a failure to conform to reasonable social norms. I judged them negatively as being sexually irresponsible, exploitive, and cavalier.

Then I read the February '99 issue of POZ Magazine. It was dedicated to the subject of barebacking. POZ editor Walter Armstrong states, in reference to barebacking, "There has always been a strong outlaw element in gay sexuality, this is an extension."

This statement stopped me dead in my tracks. I began to recall the many friends, now dead, who might have been considered sexual outlaws, who might be considered deviant, callous, non-empathetic, or anti-social by those who did not really know them. But I did know them. And was I an "outlaw" as well? As I thought about it, I tried to look more deeply, to understand, and to cultivate the insight I might need to become more compassionate in regards to them, and to myself. As insight and compassion deepened, that negative judgement about barebacking and bug chasing had to be re-examined.

In light of this, I now view barebacking and bugchasing not as Antisocial Personality Disorder, but more as Self Inflicted Violence, or as I prefer to call it, Self Injurious Behavior. This realization turned the question from "how could someone do that?" to "how can I understand and help?"

Seroconversion as a Rite of Passage

As I read through the articles published in POZ, I found the young Gay men who advocated barebacking and bug chasing to be somewhat cavalier. The glamorization, eroticization, and the claims of deeper levels of intimacy made by these men would lead one to believe that they are indeed making informed choices in their sexual behavior. Consider, for example, this plea by Tony Valenzuela. In speaking about the practice of barebacking, he states, "We need to trust that young gay men will be wise in their decisions. They're not passive victims .... It's a huge disrespect to do otherwise."

Can we trust that young gay men are "wise in their decisions" when they engage in barebacking? If so, are we able to extend such a trust to young gay men who are bug chasers?

I do want to extend the trust that Tony Valenzuela and others ask for. At the same time, I don't accept all of these claims entirely at face value. My fear is that, if I were to do so, I wouldn't be getting to the deeper truth of this issue.

To their credit, bareback advocates are at last speaking out about the behavior that has been quietly hidden away in the closet for the past two decades, and on the surface it is informed. But I believe there are others, not so outspoken, who may be equally informed, but whose intention and experience may be seen in the light of Self Injurious Behavior.

For example, in the summer of 1999 I attended the Gay Men's Health Summit in Boulder Colorado. I recall speaking to a twenty year old man who openly shared with me his feelings of wanting to seroconvert. "I don't know why, I honestly don't know why." Informed, educated, but where is the depth of insight to such desire? What's driving it?

Self Injurious Behavior may have several motivations. From the web site <www.palace.net> I found several points to consider that shed light on bug chasing. Self injurers say that their behavior offers: "escape from emptiness, depression ... relief from intense feelings... an expression of emotional pain ... escaping numbness ... a feeling of euphoria... a relief of anger... a sense of control over one's body... expressing or coping with feeling of alienation."

We're right back to that self-injurious rite of passage. For many men, being gay in the 1990's is equated with being HIV+. Such thinking has divided our community, creating strong feelings of alienation and anger for many who are HIV- . How to heal this rift? By seroconverting, many men believe that they will finally be supported by the community they once felt alienated from.

Michael Scarce writes "barebacking is equated with 'breeding' and infection with 'impregnation.' Some HIV bug chasers have gone so far as to consciously choose the individual gift-giver who will 'father' their HIV infection." Such a rite of passage for some undoubtedly completes their identification with being gay and deepens their role as a member of the community.

I believe many Gay men experience a great deal of internalized shame and anger through awakening to, and acceptance of, their sexuality in a homophobic society. The resulting Self Injurious Behavior paradoxically provides an individual with an opportunity to nurture himself, "to make internal wounds external and to nurture and heal these wounds. . . it is much easier to take care of a visible, tangible wound than to care for internal or emotional damage," according to web site <www.cymax.com>.

Living with the constant fear of becoming HIV+ or dying with complications of AIDS often manifests in internalized anger or feelings of numbness. But, paradoxically, a positive HIV test result can provide relief for the person who has seroconverted. I believe what is being relieved is internalized rage, anger, and the numbness produced by excessive fear. The article Protease Dis-inhibitors? quotes a young man as saying, "That awful waiting is gone ... Maybe now that I am HIV positive, I can finally have my life."

For me, it is not so hard to imagine living in such fear and numbness that one feels as though one doesn't even have a life. As I reflect on my own experience with sincere honesty, I must say that my life prior to HIV was very lonely and empty. It is as though HIV enabled me to discover the depths of myself and a new depth of connection with the greater human family through all of our suffering, not just my own.

Something Absolute
I am the "Bug Chaser." I am every man spoken of in this article. I am the man who has witnessed so many die while wishing that I was dying, too. I was once the hopeless, the depressed, the alienated, the physically numb. I was the one who could care less about the future; the one who felt so below another that I would put my life in jeopardy for that fleeting moment of intimacy. I was the man who slept with infected men, who had unprotected sex with these men, through the haze of alcohol, drugs, desire, and anger. I was the man who demonized my own behavior and hated myself for such behavior. I was the man who was asking for help in so many conscious and unconscious ways. I am the man whose life became full, whose life became meaningful after my seroconversion. I am the man who finally got his life back through a glimpse of liberation when I realized the depths of impermanence. I am the man who wanted to share the intimacy of suffering together and of healing together, and I am the man who knows true intimacy now.

So often we grasp for absolutes, for that which is "right," that which is "wrong," that which is "normal," that which is "abnormal." But in our grasping, we set ourselves apart and bolster ourselves there with what appears to be "fact" or "truth," and our own personal experience. It's a thin security.

I began my research into the behavior of bug chasing by turning to the wisdom of psychology to try to understand. But I have learned that, to get to the whole truth, we must let go of the definitions and the story, let go of the "bug chasers," for ultimately their story is not qualitatively different from the story of smokers, drug addicts, alcoholics and the rest of "us." Their story is little different from those who drive their cars too fast, or choose not to wear a seat belt, or use cell phones that cause brain tumors. Everyone is in the closet about something. The only real difference is the demonization of their behavior-and that's not about "them," it's about us. It is easy to condemn others for what they do, but are we able to own our own self-destructive tendencies, conscious or unconscious? Bug chasers are members of the human race, like everyone else.

I once was taught that when we ask for help, we create the opportunity for love to be expressed in the world. I think back to the eighties and how we continually asked for help then. It is true that we were often ignored, but it is equally true that we were often heard. I have witnessed a great deal of love manifested in the world in this way. I know how difficult it is for me to ask for help. More often than not, the difficulty is identifying what I need help with and learning to articulate it.

That which is absolute is the truth of our own hearts. That which is absolute is our willingness to look deeply into our own resistance and love what we discover there. In my journey, through researching and writing this article, I have had to come face to face with a tremendous amount of grief, a tremendous amount of self-demonization, a tremendous amount of truth that I had ignored for far too many years. It is difficult to love this part of myself but it becomes easier each time I re-read the words written here. It is through the cultivation of this love that I will be able to love my gay brothers who share this experience with me, and this I know as absolute.

Gay men fantasising about passing on HIV may encourage some to set out to become infected with the virus, a BBC programme has found.

Ricky Dyer
Ricky Dyer goes undercover in the world of bug-chasers and givers

According to previous media reports, HIV positive men, or "gift-givers", who want to transmit the virus to so-called "bug chasers" - HIV negative or untested men - do so in an apparently negotiated exchange.

HIV positive man Ricky Dyer, who investigates the apparent bug chasing phenomenon for a BBC programme, "I love being HIV+", says that an air of complacency about the realities of living with the virus may be one reason why infection rates have been rising.

Dyer tries to find out the truth behind the reporting by going online on a gay dating website, saying he is an HIV positive man who wants to talk to bug chasers.

"I'm not saying I am offering them sex...talk is all I want," he says in the programme.

Meeting men online fantasising about unsafe sexual practices could also send the wrong message

However, Dyer is appalled to find dozens of apparent bug chasers contact him within days saying that they want to be "pozzed up" - infected with the virus.

Conversion parties

Several UK-based websites deal with the phenomenon, as do many more in the US, where the phenomenon of bug chasing was originally reported.

Bug chasers supposedly look for "conversion parties" where HIV positive men have the opportunity to pass on the virus to multiple partners.

Dyer finds that the overwhelming majority of the talk is pure fantasy.

Most gay men with HIV do not want to pass HIV on, and most gay men who do not have HIV do not want to get infected
Will Nutland

Men who say they are bug chasers and gift givers fail to stand by their claims on camera and one man who gave an anonymous interview subsequently appeared to be lying to the production team about his activities.

His findings are echoed by the HIV charities.

Will Nutland, head of health promotion at Terrence Higgins Trust, said: "The concepts of 'gift giving' and 'bug chasers' are definitely based more in fantasy than reality.

"Most gay men with HIV do not want to pass HIV on, and most gay men who do not have HIV do not want to get infected."

And Deborah Jack, chief executive of the National AIDS Trust said: "There is very little evidence of people trying to get infected with HIV.

"The real issue is why risk-taking behaviour continues when HIV positive men have no wish to pass HIV on HIV negative men wish to avoid infection."

However, the fantasy on the internet may give the wrong idea to young and ill-informed gay men coming out on the gay scene, according to Dyer.

The Sexual Health Survey of Gay Men in London found that in recent years 50% of men who identify themselves as gay had had unprotected anal sex at least once.

Diluted message

Charities trying to reach these men may have diluted the safe sex message, according to Dyer.

"Prevention campaigns which tell men who engage in unsafe sex that withdrawing before ejaculation may lessen the risk may confuse a young guy coming out on the gay scene today," he says.

"Meeting men online fantasising about unsafe sexual practices could also send the wrong message."

Though much of the bug chasing talk on the net is just that - talk, which previous reports seem to have taken at face value - in the programme, Dyer also interviews an ex-Jehovah's Witness named Chris, who is HIV negative.

Chris says that he is engaging in a great deal of unprotected anal sex. He knows he will become infected and has made a conscious decision to welcome it into his life.

HIV diagnosis

In the course of filming, Chris is diagnosed HIV positive and in an on-camera interview tells his story.

Chris came out as gay to his parents 14 years ago and was told he would be dead in the eyes of God and the Jehovah's Witness community if he embraced his homosexuality.

Chris chose to leave home and live as a gay man.

Though he engaged in a great deal of unprotected sex for years and welcomes the "inevitable" arrival of the virus, he says he is not a bug chaser.

"I wasn't scared of the consequences of getting HIV," he says. "But by accepting it, I'm going to take the sting out of its tail."

According to the Health Protection Agency there has been a steady increase in diagnosis rates in the UK among men who have sex with men from 1500 in 1999 to over 2000 in 2004 - a 30% increase in five years.

ULtra Nate hot and sexy video clip

Give it all you got
Ultra Naté 's latest is appealing but not nearly as exciting as its first hit, while Armand Van Helden taps into his pastIt's not automatic, but Ultra Naté sure made it look that way at first. She just picks up right where she left off half a decade ago, and bats out another hit. It's so exciting.Dismiss, if you must, Naté 's new hit dance single ''Automatic,'' a cover of an '80s standard that very well may hold special meaning to you all its own. If so, Naté 's cover of The Pointer Sisters hit will be problematic. These days there are too many covers made with too little attention for too quick a buck. But Naté carefully considered what to do here. Her cover functions like a well-oiled machine whose amazingly complicated circuitry you may overlook, paying too much attention to Naté 's soulful, sensual, sweet alto. It's been a decade since the Baltimore-based singer-songwriter moved us quite like this. That was the time of her mega-hit, the gay anthem ''Free.'' Then a year later, in 1998, there was yet another dazzlingly re-imagined cover, ''If You Could Read My Mind,'' recorded with Amber and Jocelyn Enriquez for the film 54. In the interim, Naté has had several hit singles and one appealing album, but she's focused her time starting her own record label and a family, and putting on, even DJ'ing for, Sugar, a weekly Friday night house music party at Baltimore's Club 1722. She told Billboard she decided to take her time with Grime, Silk & Thunder (starstarstar), which comes six years after Stranger Than Fiction, to make it as strong and as representative as possible of who she is musically.

''Automatic'' is not exactly an exception, but the album is not quite as strong as it promised to be. Naté worked with some of today's better-known dance producers, including Eric Kupper and Quentin Harris. But her disco-dipped soul-house sound hasn't changed much since she got her start in the early '90s. The question is how much she'll appeal to a younger audience or newer dance music fans -- not to mention whether older fans move the same way now as they did a decade earlier. Despite her fantastic update of ''Automatic,'' the remakes of two of her own first hits included here aren't so revolutionary. ''It's Over Now'' and ''Scandal'' are both just as pleasing as they were the first time around, but sound more 1990 than 2007. ''Freak On'' is another number that sounds dated, even though it was produced by hip new Swedish dance producer StoneBridge, who also mixed the entire album.

Grime, Silk & Thunder has its share of appealing moments. There are even a couple big-room, mood-enhancing anthems in the manner of ''Free'' that should move gay dance floors. ''Give It All You Got'' is the obvious next at bat, with its lyrics about striving until you have it all. And there's also ''Falling,'' a sweet churchy ode, the kind you'll want to sing to that special companion you're dancing with -- though technically it's an ode to Naté 's young son.
